How to Use the Force Start Function on the ETENWOLF J1 Jump Starter

Updated on Sep 17, 2025

The Force Start function allows the ETENWOLF J1 Jump Starter to start a vehicle with a totally dead battery—a situation where normal auto-detection cannot work. Since this mode disables automatic safety detection, it should only be used when necessary and with extra caution.

When to Use the Force Start Function

You should use Force Start in these two cases:

  1. “ERROR CODE 2” is shown on the screen

    • This appears when your vehicle battery voltage is between 0.7V and 8V.

  2. No “BOOST” icon or error code is shown on the screen

    • This means your vehicle battery voltage is below 0.7V.

    • In this case, the jump starter cannot detect the battery at all, so no icon or code will appear.

Before You Begin: Check Your J1 Battery Level

  • The jump starter must have at least 20% charge to use Force Start.

  • For best performance, we recommend charging the J1 to 80% or higher.

Starting a completely dead battery requires more power, and a higher charge ensures the best chance of success.

How to Use Force Start (4 Steps)

  1. Connect the clamps

    • Insert the battery clamps into the J1 booster port.

    • Attach the clamps to your car battery terminals (red to positive +, black to negative –).

    • The screen may show “ERROR CODE 2” or may remain blank.

    • Make sure red to positive +, black to negative –
  2. Activate Force Start

    • Press and hold the Power Button and Flashlight Button together for 2–3 seconds.

    • This starts the force output mode.

    • The BOOST icon will show.
  3. Start your engine

    • Go to your vehicle and try starting the engine.

  4. Remove the clamps

    • After the engine starts, carefully disconnect the clamps from the battery.

⚠️ Important Safety Notes

  • In Force Start mode, safety detection features are disabled.

  • Double-check your clamp connections before proceeding:

    • Red clamp → positive (+) terminal

    • Black clamp → negative (–) terminal

  • Incorrect connections may cause serious damage to the vehicle or the jump starter.

Need More Help?

If your vehicle still won’t start after following the steps above, and your J1 is charged to at least 80%, please contact our support team at support@etenwolf.com with the following details:

  • Your order number

  • The serial number of your J1 (see: Where can I find the serial number?)

  • Your vehicle make/model

  • Photos or videos showing the issue

Our support agents will guide you through troubleshooting and ensure you receive the help you need.

In summary: Use the Force Start function only when your battery is completely dead and the J1 cannot detect it. Make sure your jump starter has enough charge, connect carefully, and use caution since automatic protections are bypassed.
